Bharathanatyam

Vazhuvoor (or Vizhuvur) is one of the original styles of Bharatanatyam that we follow in Pranavam. We conduct both weekdays and weekend classes.

Pranavam Dance School, giving children a unique experience in movement, rhythm and melody helping them to enable creative performance work, deepening their cultural awareness with a sense of achievement.

Students from age 4 years and above are exposed to this beautiful dance form from India. Pranavam Dance School also host the Annual Dance Showcase and yearly twice a Salangai pooja event. This helps the students gain confidence, understand group dynamics, and stage aesthetics.

Classes are grouped according to the ability of the students, with sessions for beginners (Sub juniors), intermediates (Juniors), and advanced students (Seniors). There are no terms or semesters; students may advance to the next level class at any time during the year, based on their ability. Class sizes are kept small. This ensures personal attention from the teacher; the teacher is aware when a student is ready to advance.

Certification

We are offering certification for the students who are performing in the programs, Salangai Pooja and Arengetram conducted by our institution.

Basic Class Rules

  • Students are required to register for class. This can be done in person.
  •  Waiver form must sign by parents/guardian prior to starting the session
  • All students must arrive in time and picked up right after the class is over. We won’t babysit your child. If you are running late please inform us.
  • Parents can visit last week of the month for the last 15 min to see the progress.
  • We request 100% attendance to the class but if you miss a class for medical reason, please talk to us and we will try to either call you to the same level class on other time or will give you 30 min of time to go over missed topic.
  • Dress Code: All students are required to wear proper dance attire to the class. No jeans, shorts, frocks, and reveling tops are allowed. (Main reason is that students will sit in half squat position and they should be comfortable).
  • Practice: All students are required to practice 20 min a day for their dance routine. This is very important for everyone – student and their class mate – unless they practice they will not remember the step and will have to repeat in the class. This will result in loss of opportunity to learn new items.
  • Please feel free to speak with the teacher if you have any questions or concerns after the class gets over.
